My January change went well. Mr. Miller installed a low flow shower head in our bathroom. We picked this up at Wal-Mart for $24.99. It is very easy to install and simple to use. It can be a hand held which is nice when cleaning the shower too.
Saying that I will lead into our change for February. We have decided to go natural and earth friendly on all of our cleaning products. I love, love the Seventh Generation products. If you go to http://www.seventhgeneration.com/ you can even print off coupons. I usually find mine at Whole Foods but I do know that Target carries some of their products also.
I have found a new love for their laundry detergent. I have also discovered that if when doing the cold water soak first on Junior Mints diapers add 1 Cup of Peroxide, let agitate slightly and then soak for 45 minutes. Finish cycle. Then do your hot wash with 1/2 the recommended amount of detergent and cold rinse 2 times and I have no order and it works great on the stains. However nothing is as good on those stains as the Sun and a little lemon juice, but until thaws around here we are just living with the stains.
The next big product is one that is in all of our cabinets...VINEGAR! Yes, I said vinegar! I use vinegar for a lot of things around the house. My favorite is cleaning mirrors and windows. A little vinegar with plain old water in a spray bottle followed by wiping dry with yesterdays newspaper and your windows and mirrors have never looked so good. Thanks to my Dad for teaching me that trick as a youngster. I used to cringe when he said it was "window day" but now I am thankful he showed me how! Love you Dad!
http://www.vinegartips.com/ has wonderful uses for cleaning, disinfecting, odor remover, etc. No wonder it has been around for 10,000 years, it just might be the world's oldest and trusted ingredient.

Maeghan, I have to tell that going to all natural cleaning products had such a positive effect on my auto-immune illnesses, and I think that it truly helps with my children's issues as well.
ReplyDeleteI know that you have one child with autism, and I would really like to hear if you see any changes in him as well. My older son has transient tic disorder, and when he gets around chemicals it greatly effects his symptoms. Good luck with the challenge, and thank you for the great link
I'm a big fan of vinegar and peroxide, too! I put peroxide directly on clothing stains and they always come out! Love it!!!
ReplyDeleteMy mom's always used vinegar too. Oh and last year, she tried washing windows with newspapers because it supposedly makes less streaks than paper towels. I don't think she was too impressed with the results though.
ReplyDeletemy mother in law taught me that trick with the vinegar and the newspapers. I'm getting my post ready for the February change...my January change is still in tact!
ReplyDeleteThis is my February small change, too. I make my own laundry detergent, which works better than any commercial product I've tried.
